what do you do to keep from getting bored when writing?

I'm currently writing a book, and I've gotten to where when I sit down to start writing I really don't want to. I'll want to until I sit down to actually write, then I just want to do something else. What do you do when this happens?

Sometimes, I get up and go do something else! Ask yourself, are you allowing enough fun into your life? All work and no play does indeed make Jack a dull boy. And you're the only one who can judge your fun status.

But if that's not the problem, it may be that you've pre-structured your writing too much. If you're writing nonfiction you pretty much have to follow your outline, but if it's fiction you're writing, are you pre-planning the life out of your characters? Do you think you know them so well they can't surprise you? If so, let go of the reins. Give them their head, and they're bound to come up with some delightful surprises that will energize you.

One way or another, you have to get over being bored, because you're the only one who can breathe life into your work. What excited you about this project in the first place? Get back to that, and chances are you'll feel energized again. Maybe you need to throw a wrench into the works -- a new character or problem situation -- to wake you up.

Whatever you do, do something different.

    I hope this helps.

I write cuss words over and over until I think of something else. But yeah, I'd like to know the answer to this, too. I think of all sorts of things to write when I'm driving to work or when I'm at a bar or shopping... and then when I sit down to write, the fever is gone and I'm thinking about lunch or what's on TV.

Try just writing whatever comes to mind.... maybe it'll trigger something.

Kind of difficult to explain the internal process, but simply put, you just write. It's just like training for a marathon, where you would run a distance everyday. If you went out for your run, and just stood there, you wouldn't be running. Same with writing. Just write. Just write a part of your novel, or go on to something else, just start writing about something, even if it doesn't make sense or doesn't seem to be very good, because, again just like running, once you get moving, it doesn't take long to find a rythym and get something going.

Whatever you do, keep writing. If you stop, you will lose all interest altogether, or it will be very difficult to start again.

Write a later scene in the book, or go back and edit what you have so far, or keep writing but very loosely (minimal description, just dialogue or something that you will go back and fill in later).

attempt questioning approximately how great it will be in case you end some thing. you will possibly have some thing you may share with others and a few thing you will possibly be able to even have the means to get revealed. I actually have a matching situation, dissimilar recommendations with undesirable stick to by using. each time I do manage to end some thing although, the advantages is plenty extra effective. So, for me, the trick is to easily remind myself to no longer get distracted. placed post it notes all around with quote from nicely-widely used human beings or only notes from your self telling your self to maintain concentrated. Your different recommendations won't go away. you may continually spend a couple of minutes only jotting down good recommendations you have and are available back to them later. another subject although is to %. a venture that rather pastimes you. possibly the countless issues you're no longer ending are no longer good adequate to hold your pastime over the dimensions of time it is going to take to end. you may continually share your recommendations with others and get their enter on which looks the main effectual in the event that all of them seem such as you.

Try writing something different for a while, then go back to it. Or just get over yoursefl and write. Eventually you should get so engrossed in the writing you'll foreget your boredom.
