Husband wants an Old Timey name?

My husband and I are expecting a boy. Since I got to name our daughter, Rosanna Maria Lord. My husband wants to name our son but, an old fashioned name... this is his list...

Asa Uriah Lord

Bertram "Bert" Elmer Lord

Waldo Francis Lord

Talmidge Orville Lord

Woodrow "Woody" Pritchard Lord

Since I got to name our daughter solely on our own, he gets to name this one. He wants to avoi horrible modern names like Benjamin, Thomas and, Henry and, loathes unique new age names like Mason, Derek and, Craig. Which one sounds the best (pair) so I can try to persuede him to pick that one.

    Rosanna Maria Lord is beautiful.

Woodrow "Woody" Pritchard Lord is setting the boy up to be miserable.

I understand not wanting a super popular or trendy name, by the way Benjamin, Thomas & Henry are traditional not modern....but your husband is trying a little to hard.

Waldo is just too associated with the "Where's Waldo" series....

    maybe Walden would be okay

Asa-means morning in Japanese and is a girl's name but in English sounds like a swear word

It as if he is picking ugly names on purpose. Maybe you can persuade him to pick something from an old novel like:

    Oscar, Oliver, etc..

  • I, personally, would have him write down 5 more names that he liked. Most of these are terrible, and you really shouldn't have to live with a name you don't love. BOTH parents should love their kids names.

Asa Uriah Lord -- Sadly, this is the best of the bunch. I, personally, dislike Asa, but this name would get him beat up a bit less thna the others.

An "Oh my God, poor kid" would sum up the rest of the list..."Where's Waldo" and "Woody" would be the worst though. Could you imagine the abuse the kid would get?

Why not suggest some "old-timey" names that YOU are okay with..names that fit into his rules of not being modern or unique new age names? I'm also unsure why he called Benjam, Thomas, and Henry "horrible modern names." They're nice, strong normal names that won't get the kid beat up after school.

    He might like:

Cedric, Theodore "Theo," Conrad, Silas, Simon, Isaac, Leander, Calvin

    Asa Uriah Lord--Too unique.

Bertram "Bert" Elmer Lord--Not a good first name.

Waldo Francis Lord--I would switch the first and middle names.

Talmidge Orville Lord--I LOVE this combo, actually. But I would spell it Talmadge.

Woodrow "Woody" Pritchard Lord--Not my favorite combo by anyyyy means...

    CONGRATS!

id go with Woodrow, because out if all of them it sounds the best, and it the name that is least likely to get picked on when he goes to school.

im going to be brutally honest:

Asa Uriah Lord: (1/10) i havent got a clue how to pronounce Asa, and Uriah sounds like urine.

Bertram "Bert" Elmer Lord: (3/10) not so bad, but it sounds like the name of an old man.

Waldo Francis Lord: (2/10) Waldo just reminds me of "Where's Waldo"

Talmidge Orville Lord: (2/10) I've never heard of Talmidge before! orville sounds like a town or place!

Woodrow "Woody" Pritchard Lord: (6/10): beceause Woodrow can be shortened to Woody, i think this isnt to bad, and the kid wouldnt be made fun of a school. to me Pritchard sounds like Preacher, which i dont really like, but its not as bad as a middle name.

    hope this helped :)

Asa Uriah Lord: Thats just weird i mean its kind os like *** urine so i dont like it

    Bertram Elmer Lord: Hate it

    Waldo Francis Lord: Terrible

    Talmidge Orville Lord: NO

    Woodrow Pritchard Lord: OMG

Okay i am all for unique names but these are just weird and awful

Asa Uriah Lord sounds the best!

Oh, PLEASE NOT Waldo or Elmer (think Fudd!) - the poor kid will be teased mercilessly.

Woody is also going to make him the target of all sorts of cruel teasing and jokes.

Orville is too stuck up. Uriah &Talmidge - yuck!

Francis may be okay, Bertram is probably the best out of the lot, although i HATE Bert.

I guess I'd pick Asa. It is a kind of a neat name- different. Asa Bertram???

What about suggesting : Lincoln, Calvin, Beckett or Everrett??

In what world are Benjamin, Henry and Thomas "horrible modern names"? They're pretty classic in my opinion...?

Anyway, Bertram Elmer would get my vote. Or maybe Talmidge. They aren't horrible names for the most part. Although I don't love Uriah or Woody.

Rosanna Maria is absolutely adorable. It has that old fashioned feel, without being too outdated.

I don't want to be rude, but the names that your husband has picked out are awful. You can still go with an old fashioned name that sounds nice.

    How about:

    Reuben

    Roman

    Oliver

    Isaac

    August

    Marshall

    Jasper

    Ivan

    Silas

P.S. All of these names were popular in 1900.

    Good luck! :)
