what is the name of this law- for special needs adults?

I am going through a divorce. My son is 5. He has down syndrome. He will need financial support from his non custodial parent through his adulthood. What is the name of this law?

I don't know of any specific law (in the US), however court ordered child support for a special needs child is usually extended past the point when the child reaches the age of majority. In some states, the court may order that both parents make child support payments to a "Special Needs Trust". Normally, child support payments belong to the child and the parent acts as a trustee to use the money for the benefit of the child, instead of the benefit of the parent. When there is a special needs child, the court may require parents to purchase additional insurance or make payments to the “Special Needs Trust” in addition to paying for regular monthly living expenses.
