What car would you recommend?

Needs to get fairly good mileage, standard transmission, be reliable. I do not like plastic so little of that, I also like diesel engines, but not necessary.

Cannot look like a chick car or be "cute". Old and rough works.

2wd okay

Trucks okay if smaller

I'm looking for a VW MK2 diesel but they don't come by too often, please make suggestions for other options.

10 points to best answer.

Avoid anything from Japan or Korea because they have high repair costs and will often leave you with nothing to drive while you wait for ordered parts to come in. The also don’t last as long as American or European cars. Even the ones “assembled” in America are built with low quality imported Japanese parts .

That fact being said I suggest a Chevy Camaro, Pontiac Solstice, Corvette or Ford Mustang for sports cars.

Chevy Cobalt, Chevy Malibu or Ford Focus for practical cars.

Jeep Liberty for off road fun.

If you prefer an imported car go with Mercedes, Audi, or VW they will be a LOT more reliable than Japanese or Korean.
