yorkie vs. chihuahua?
i have a 4 year old chihuahua already and im planning to buy a yorkshire terrier. will they get along? and what's the temperament of a yorkie? i've read in a few sites that their temperament is almost the same as chihuahua.. small dog syndrome, tend to be clingy, barks to strangers, etc. are they as protective and as "bitchy" as chihuahuas? my chihuahua wants a 'personal' space of her own and gets mad whenever we get near her when she's sleeping. she's also very overprotective--she doesnt get along well with my siblings and my friends (barks at them and almost wants to bite them, she really has issues!) and is only nice to me. are yorkies like that also? i want a pet that will get along well with my family & friends. a dog as nice as a labrador but a small breed.

Whatever you decide make sure you let your chi meet the dog before hand. Some dogs get a long, some don't.
In my experience I found that boy/girl combination seem to work better then girl/girl but every dog is different.

Actually, even big dogs get the small dog syndrome. Both the Yorkie and the Chihuahuas have their own pros and cons. The pros on Yorkies is that they are tolerant of older children if treated with care. The Yorkshire Terrier can also be somewhat independent and assertive. They get along well with other pets. Their con is that they're territorial and they needed their own space and they have a tendency to bite out of frustration and need daily grooming to keep their coats glossy and not to get tangled.
Chihuahuas deeply devoted and fiercely loyal. They typically become extremely attached to one or two people. They are bold, fearless, and highly protective of their masters. They are gentle, loving, and sweet-tempered. They are wary of strangers and make excellent watchdogs. But they are not well suited for children or other pets since they are also very territorial are very much often being spoiled by their owners.

The Yorkshire Terrier prefers a warm climate and plenty of exercise, although most of it can be indoors. This little dog often neglects to consider her small size when challenging adversaries. Most of them get along well with other dogs and pets, especially if well socialized when young. They like children but small children may injure them. As a reminder, never leave a child unsupervised with a puppy or dog.

The Chihuahua is:
- Perfect for apartment dwellers due to the small size;
- They do not do well with children;
- Excellent for adults and the elderly;
- They do not tolerate rough play;
- He is loving and devoted to his owners;
- He is capable of alerting you to strangers, but because of his size of course is not able to do much else.
- He needs to be socialized early in life to prevent behavior problems;
- He can be paper-trained;
- The long-haired type Chihuahua requires daily grooming;
- He normally has a soft spot in the center of his head which will need additional protection;
- He should wear sweaters and coats in cold weather.

this is a question with two possible answers, some guys favor long hair while others may choose shorter hair

Personally I like guys with reduced hair. I don't mind it getting a little long like 3-4 ins (maybe a little longer) as long as it's styled in a very good way.
