Can I record programs on a Sky + box if I stop subscribing?

I'm fed up with Sky always putting subscription charges up and I am thinking of cancelling. If I do does anyone know if I can still record Free channels on my Sky + box

Update:

Calling Sky's customer services isn't free and they take ages to answer E-mails

    Sky+ services are only available to subscribers, if you cancel then Sky+ will be disabled

    I'm interested to know the answer as I too am fed up with sky. I have to have them as I wouldn't even get channel 5 otherwise.

    call the customer service number for sky and they will help you further

    I don't think that you can, as they used to charge for the service which means that they can switch it off. If you cancel your contract I would bet that they will do it.

    I figure that if you drop them they will surely cut you off on it. No pay,no play!
