Were the West Coast Eagles really the worst team this year ?

Interesting stats at end Round 19 -

Second bottom on scores against but 12th best in attack and at 1551 the WCE attack was only ONE GOAL PER GAME worse than St Kilda - 1668 for

Maybe this is some consolation for WCE supporters !

@KM: Essendon beat St.Kilda twice, so maybe THEY are the worst.

This season has been so strange though, it's hard to judge a worst team.

Brisbane losing 12 out of 14 games or something like that, Melbourne losing 7 out of 9 games (and getting a draw), Richmond losing their first 9 games, Adelaide losing their first 6 games, port losing 8 in a row, West Coast losing 7 in a row, Essendon losing 6 out of 7 games.

Lets not forget Hawthorn losing 6 or 7 in a row, being 15th then going on to almost being a realistic Top 4 contender.

Carlton and Sydney have also had some bad patches too this year.

Unfortunately for West Coast, they just haven't got the wins on the board like the other teams have.

West Coast, I suppose you can say, have been the most consistently worst team this year. I don't think they have won consecutive games all year.

Source(s): PS. Some of the losing streaks may be a little bit off, but they are fairly accurate.

After viewing the WCE-Lions match with the amount of clangers by both teams, I'd say yes.

Stats can be misleading: take away LeCras' 12 goal effort in one match and compare the figures then!

Another indicator could be expectation: 33% of experts at the start of the season in one publication predicted WCE to be in the finals. The same experts said Melbourne and Richmond would battle for the spoon: Melbourne ran the Magpies to 1 point in their first meeting (and could have won if the game was only a few seconds longer!) and drew with them in the second go.

Admittedly WCE should have beaten Brisbane on Saturday night (if they'd kicked straighter and the Brown "mark" was not paid because he PUSHED the WCE defender in the BACK!). However, even then they would have only been level with Brisbane on games won with an inferior for and against.

I think there are four or five teams that could easily qualify as the worst team of the year Lex.

my own included, Port have had a shocker, a nine game losing streak. Adelaide for their abysmal start to the season would also qualify plus of course they met Port twice and were beaten twice, Brisbane, and of course West Coast. result wise yes, of course it will read, that way, but i dont think they were necessarily the worst.

in 2005 they were 1st on the ladder now today as i write this comment they stand on the bottom of the ladder. having won only 4 matches and losing 14 matches this season.

my only hope for them is the case with richmond tigers, at one point they were the wooden spoons now they are winning matches even the top 5 lose. that wasn't even long ago...beginning of this year.

I don't think those stats mean anything Lex, it all comes down to winning games and the fact is they have won the least amount of games, so that in my opinion makes them the worst side in the league.

Yes they are a pathetic team enough said stats mean nothing at all.

Even though were last, we still beat the Bombers at Home and Away.....So i'd say Essendon are the worst, but Eagles are last which makes them worser.
