Is there a difference in quality between VOB and MPEG-2?
I recently copied home vhs tapes to DVDs, and then uploaded the DVDs to my pc. I'd like to edit the VOB files, but Roxio won't edit VOB, so I need to change the extension from .vob to .mpeg2 or some other format. Will the quality of the video decrease with that change? Is there a better format I should use to keep the .vob quality?

Use Avidemux, you can convert to mpg with no quality loss. VOB contains mpeg-2 video

The link below shows how to use Avdiemux to do what you want to do. The end result will be an mpg file with no quality loss that you can edit in whatever program you want.

be sure to include the file extension .mpg when you name the file.
