Smash Bros. Melee? Or Smash Bros Brawl?
... Two years ago around this time, I bought Super Smash Bros. Brawl. According to my analysis and the reviews for this game, Brawl is considered to be one of the best Wii games to play. I enjoyed it myself... However, as much as I like Brawl, it seems a little too... Noob friendly (No, that's not a good enough explaination.)
I'll try to elaborate.
+ means PROS/ Good side
- means CONS/ Bad side
Melee
+ It was 9000 times better than it's previous installment from the N64... Just kidding. But, Smash Bros. Melee managed to surpass the previous game by a longshot in terms of graphics, difficultly, character usages, etc.
+ Unlike most fighting games, Melee ACTUALLY requires skill and thinking ability for the player to even play the game, regardless of its difficulty (Think Tekken or Street Fighter... just faster.)
+ Melee is extremely face paced
+ Great soundtrack.
+ Technical game mechanics that can be understood through sheer practicing and information based on other people's experiences...
+ Simplistic but effective adventure mode.
- Several characters get nerfed badly... (KIRBY!!!!!)
- Melee is not the most noob friendly game in the world. If you're new to this game with absolutely no experience in Super Smash Bros series whatsoever... you're screwed, regardless of the difficulty level. The game is just not meant for casual players...
- Some characters are still unbalanced but only to small extent though.
- There are some extremely terrible glitches that will even devastate the game itself. (Does the black hole or the Master Hand glitch ring any bells?)
- There are too many clone type characters here... ALTHOUGH, they play VERY distinctively, there are still CLONES. It doesn't get better... A totally different character, a totally different world, a totally different fighting style, but SAME attacks. (Example - Ganondorf vs C.Falcon or Dr. Mario vs Mario or Link vs Young Link or Pikachu vs Pichu.) The character WILL use the same moves... but EXTREMELY DIFFERENT VARIATIONS OF THE SAME MOVES OF THE PREVIOUS CHARACTER.
Brawl
+ More items, more characters, more options.
+ Over 200+ soundtracks!! AND YOU CAN CHANGE THEM AND LISTEN TO WHATEVER YOU WANT IN THE STAGES!!
+ The gameplay is more simplistic and noob friendly.
+ Awesome adventure mode
+ Stage editoral mode - create your stages
+ Online mode
+ All character have Final Smashs.
+ Sonic and Snake are present...
- After about seven years after Melee, the graphics look more or less the same... this is a bit strange though because, Melee was created practically two years after the very first game and... WELL LOOK AT THOSE TWO!!!
- I hate to tell you guys this... but Sonic and Snake being the high point of the game... is ALSO THE LOW POINT IN THE GAME AS WELL. Sure it's cool to Mario and Sonic duke it out. But, Sonic doesn't really fit in the Smash Bros. series at all and neither does Snake. They should have been replaced other NINTENDO character because SMASH BROS. is a NINTENDO game.
- The masterpieces only last from 30 seconds to about a minute, making them completely unplayable.
- Game mechanics are basically a more watered down, floaty and slower version of Melee, focusing on air combat moreso in this area. Don't expect any L - cancelling, edge guarding or natural combos here. This causes things to be more chaotic and luck based. The new tripping mechanic doesn't help either, because it can happen ANYTIME and if that does... you will be KOed by a cheap shot.
- Brawl is nowhere NEAR as competitive as Melee. Brawl is more of party game in this situation.
- Melee often required skill and technique. When you win against the opponent in Melee you feel you deserve it and you've proven to be slightly better than the other players. Noob players can overcome others through sheer training and patience. Brawl on the other hand... if you win... There are going to be SOMETIME when you feel you don't even deserve the victory. For example. You and your oppenent fought to a stalemate... however, the opponents starts overwhelming you and he/she is preparing to finish you off. However, the oppoent SUDDENLY trips!! You then capitalize by cheap shotting the character instead of figuring out some strategy!
That's Brawl and Melee in a nutshell. To be honest, I prefer Melee over Brawl. Sure Melee is an old videogame. But, again, I want to be creative with my strategies, tricks and techniques. Brawl... It's a very good game - but it's more of a party game meant for casual players.
Please let me know you personal thoughts on this topic. PROVIDE AS MUCH EVIDENCE AND FACTS AS POSSIBLE AND DO NOT TROLL!
Thank you and best wishes to all

Maybe its just me but I actually found Brawl to be more challenging than Melee.
As you said Melee has a lot of characters that are basically clones of each other. So If you know how to defeat Pikachu for example you can defeat Pichu in the same way. The same goes for Link and Young Link, Dr. Mario and Mario etc. It's like if you can beat one you can beat them all. While Brawl still has some clones(like Link and Toon Link for example) it seems to me that there's not as many as there is in Melee.
Brawl has the Subspace Emissary Challenge. Yeah, if you do it on Easy it's going to be really easy. But try defeating Taboo on Intense and you'll see what I mean.
Also, in the Single player area Cruel Brawl it's really very difficult. I had a hard time beating just three enemies.
Brawl maybe is more of a party game, when you play with others. But I think that was because Melee was too hard for beginner players. So now they have something for both beginners and advanced players. If you only play Brawl mode though, I guess it does seem easier, but even then you still kinda gotta have a strategy and know how to use your character.

They're both excellent games. I think Brawl is somewhat better, but I'm somewhat annoyed at Brawl's frequent and long loading times, and randomly tripping characters when they run.
