In GREECE, Who gets more respect, a person employed in a private firm or a government worker?
...generally speaking. Which job has more prestige or gains more respect, a person employed in the private sector or in the government sector...that is taking everything equally?
For example, in Australia and the USA, government 'workers' don't get the same level of respect for the same equal level of job as in the private sector. What about in Greece?
LOL...very funny guys. Thanks for the answers.
The jobs I am referring to doesn't need to include being in the military or in the PO, since these are legitimate work really best suited for and done by the government..
This reminds me of a short story about government employees:
A United State Government Employee sits in his office and out of boredom, decides to see what's in his old filing cabinet. He pokes through the contents and comes across an old brass lamp.
"This will look nice on my mantelpiece," he decides, and takes it home with him.
While polishing the lamp, a genie appears and grants him three wishes. "I wish for an ice cold diet Coke right now!" He gets his Coke and drinks it.
Now that he can think more clearly, he states his second wish. "I wish to be on an island where beautiful nymphomaniacs reside." Suddenly he is on an island with gorgeous females eyeing him lustfully.
He tells the genie his third and last wish. "I wish I'd never have to work ever again."
POOF! He's back in his government office.

Hands down government workers.
From the time one graduates from school, be it high school or college, they try to get into the public sector. They take "exams" for a posted position (is not unusual a few thousand to compete for several jobs that you can count on the fingers of 1 hand).
Now,these exams are highly iconic and do not reflect the performance of the candidate or knowledge but mainly who has the greatest connections for the job)
Once "you get in, you never get out". Nobody can fire a public employee.
Those people, sitting on their throne (as they think of themselves) pay very little attention to the citizens and show even less respect for them.
And then we wonder why the country is in such disarray!
FYI, all the TD I get are from public employees who are "working" on their desk ;)

Definitely the person working in a private firm. Civil servants are usually given their jobs by the political parties as a reward for being good ***-kissers.

Ignore donald duck. He's a fail troll.
In Greece working for the government provides you a generally good amount of money.
However because of the mess that's going aroung at public services and the unorganization, public servants are 'victims' of laughter and joke. Of course there are plenty of them who work hard and have tough, complex and demanding jobs but they are not the majority.
In general, private employees are better known about their tough and tiring job because they have to work hard otherwise they will get fired(whereas government workes do not easily loose their job)
Hope i helped!

Public sector employees are well respected in Greece. Everybody blames them, because they often lack professionalism and don't love their job, but they respect them, especially the educated private employees.
I think it is because they are good payers (in stores etc) and because they can be helpful, when one is friends with them, exactly because one can save time and pain with their help.

Government workers are generally lazy, and don't know the meaning of "customer service". There are exceptions, of course. Maybe I'll find one some day. The gov. workers don't get the same level as respect, but everyone wishes that they could be one.

In Greece, governemnt work is the best, and very wanted. Those workers get a lot of bonuses, holidays, 13 and 14th salary. They work very little hours. And pay very low taxes. That's why Greece had problems. And asks for money from Germany and the EU. Greeks eat and steal their own money, so they don't have enough for the country.
