How do you choose a way to write?

I want to write a book, but when I start I get overwhelmed because of the endless ways I see to write out the scene. It could start from this persons point of view, or the others. It could be first or third person, narrative, narrative knows what the charecter is thinking....and that's just a few ways...I start to drown in the possibilites because I can only write one and I can never find which way is best. Any advice?!?!?!

I've been writing for a long time now, and I've found one method that works best for me (because in writing, as in all things, the same thing does not work for everyone): I start the piece on a specific scene of my choosing, in the POV of my choosing, and the tense of my choosing. Then I re-read it. Then, finally, I let the writing choose. Yes, yes, I let the writing choose. If you're anything like me, your piece will insist to you that you write it a specific way. I used to do everything in third person, and when I got to work on a novel entitled The Storyteller, the female lead seemed to snap in my mind that I had damn well better make it from her POV, because it was her story. I did it, and the writing flourish.

Basically, let your writing speak to you. It will tell you where to go if you give it long enough.

I had the same problem when I first started writing. There were tons of ways for my plot to go. I began to start writing in first person, and it went pretty well until I couldn't think of anything else to write :/ Then I switched to third and everything went a lot smoother. And if you can't choose which plot line you want to go by, write a quick draft of each and you will be able to tell which one is better. Yes, it will take a while, and you might not even get anything out of it at first, but patience is key :)

    Good luck~

Well, what I do is figure that each of my characters have a different personality and way of describing things through their eyes (i only write through 1st person), and then I decide what character would best describe the scene.

(IE: a character that is always serious would not best describe a hilarious joke being played on a friend; and a humorous character would not very well describe a harsh fight and death scene because it is out of their character.)

I always write through first person because you canre ally get inside the character's head. It's like they're telling you a story. An account of their life. It makes me more comfortable reading a book :)

Have you found your main character?

I write from my main character's point of view.

I like when I read a book and the authors switch from one character to the next.

So, technically, you could do both.

But, if you wrote from one perspective and then another, make sure you separate them by chapters.

I like to see from multiple perspectives just to see what's in the other characters heads.

    Do it like that.

Tell from one perspective, end the chapter and maybe switch to another perspective.

Don't talk about the same scene over and over, but I think it would be interesting.

I chose by the way I think sounds like my audience would like and also pleases yourself. Normally, me being a romance and humor writer, whichever is funniest and best written. Also, which ever one makes the most sense unless of course it is a nonsense story(in which case, go crazy with it).

If that makes any sense :3
