I'm half Cherokee half White, does that make me a Mestiza?
Wiki definition of Mestiza is "Mestizo is a Spanish term that was used during the Spanish colonial period in Latin America to refer to people of mixed European and Amerindian ancestry".
Someone online called me a Mestiza? But I've always considered Mestizos/Mestizas to be hispanic? Like half spaniard half aztec or something.
To Jisdu. Sorry I don't believe that "if you're cherokee in your heart then you're 100%" crap. Thats what white people say.
My CDIB tells me I am 1/2, therefore I am 1/2.
@jisdu
I'm about 60-70% fluent in Cherokee, and I grew up and live on the reservation in NC, so yes, I am around the culture ALOT. I live it everyday.

Half might be seen. But I have performed a couple of dozen household tree, ancestry searches for individuals and you would be surprised at what number of Americans do have a few local American blood combined of their household tree. Most of those I've determined for consumers have been very far-off, say like their first-class first-class first-class first-class first-class grandmother used to be part Choctaw or Cherokee. The households I did the paintings for have been surprised, and a few taken again, to uncover this out. In fact I suppose you would be very rough pressed to uncover a real entire and natural 'white blooded' character within the US.

IF you really have one parent that is White and one Cherokee you would all ready know that you are which ever culture you choose to follow. To REAL Cherokee people you are either Cherokee or you are not. There is no half. What others choose to call you doesnt matter if you know who you really are.
Odd ive heard this many times from fullbloods.
I am not talking about "in your heart" stuff. Im talking about culture.
Were you raised Cherokee?
Do you speak the language?
Do you know and do those things that seperate Cherokee from other folks?
If your answer to these questions is no then you are White no mater what your paper from the government says.Frankly, in my opinion, the fact that you have to ask such a question tells me just how far from Cherokee you are.

Jisdu is 100% correct and you're the one who is kidding yourself. You say you have a CDIB card, but are you enrolled with the Eastern Band of Cherokee??? And she is right about the either 100% Cherokee or nothing too.... You cannot live in 2 worlds, you cannot be 2 people, you are 1 person and you are either Cherokee or you are NOT!!
Oh and no you aren't Metiza/Metizo either

Yes, usually half European and Amerindian represents a mestiza but besides culture, you are a beautiful human being. Never forget that.
I know in America race is so prevalent but we human beings are one family. If we start to see character as a means of classifying people, we can progress as a society.

Hispanic and the north American indian are from the same root coming from Eskimos. The Mapping of genes was done several years ago tracing the human race back to Africa. I saw it on TV and educational channel.

Hispanic is not a race. It means you speak Spanish as a first language.
You are Mixed.
