Is it possible to put a new, different engine in an older car?

If money is no object, is it possible to put a new, better engine in an older car? For example, I drive an 1999 Toyota 4Runner with a V6 and I want to update it. It's still running fine, but if I wanted to put in a new V8, say from a 2010/new Tundra or just another new engine, is that possible? How would that work? What else would I have to change on the car?

Thanks.

Yes it is possible and you will have to change everything from the motor to the computer of the truck. Thats only if it fits under your hood cause some trucks werent meant to have big motors.

Provided there is room in the engine compartment, you have to consider the motor mounts, the coupling to the transmission, and the gear ratios in the tranny & the rear-end. Depending on the differences in the engines, you may have to look at up-sizing the radiator and beefing up the suspension, Also, don't forget the exhaust system (and the accompanying emissions controls).

To keep it simple, stay with engines from the same manufacturer - ideally an engine that was offered in the car you own. It is a lot of engineering - so I wouldn't jump into it without a lot of technical help.

Anything is possible with enough money. There are kits to put chevy V8s in mustangs, mustang V8s in just about anything, and even VW 4 cylinder diesels in Suzuki Samurais. It's just a matter of is it worth it...

if money is no object yes you can but why not buy a new one? you will need all the wiring harness and the computor all sensors probably the tranny if it is an auto andpossiblyy the rear end if it has any sensors for theCOMPUTERr

    of course its possible

    practicle? probs not

you will need a new tranny drive shaft and will have to redo the engine compartment along with all the other parts to make sure it runs correctly and doesnt overheat

Yes, it's definitely possible, it just takes some hard work and a lot of tweaking.
