The French Revolution is one of the most important events in modern history. It was more radical than either the English or American Revolutions, and had a far greater impact on 19th century Europe. The unthinkable fall of the Bourbons resonated throughout Europe, sparking a series of revolutions which rallied behind liberalism and nationalism. The major socialist revolutions of the twentieth century in Russia, China and Cuba were inspired the French example.

When I looked it up in Wikipedia, it said France. But Wikipedia has been known to get the facts wrong, you know. I've looked very carefully to see if Salma Hayek has ever visited (or is likely to in the near future) Shetland and Wikipedia does not mention this detail once. So I have to say that it's possible that Wikipedia got it wrong and it wasn't France at all.

Maybe it all started in Lapland, over a cup of tea. Hope I helped.

....ah, you Tricky Dicky...you didn't ask where it STARTED. you asked where it TOOK PLACE...... well, no reason to suppose that Lapland wasn't one of the places where it took place, is there? My answer remains the same.

My Grandad always said the French were always revolting, no matter where you found them. I think he meant they were always on strike.!
