Why is my computer clock perpetually showing the wrong time?

My computer clock is hopelessly out of sync. It's creepy - can a virus do that? If I reset it, the next time I start up it's out of sync again. It used to be okay, then it just stopped - if I try to sync it with something online it says there is a sync error. Any idea what's happening, or how I can fix it? (:

    Pls replace the CMOS Battery in your computer.
