Funny, that's what my father said?

There's a book, and now a TV show, about the memorable things fathers said. I was recently reminded that my father [often enough] called me a vulture because I was in the kitchen while he was fixing dinner. In my own defense, I was a hungry teenage boy in a home where food was scarce and meals were skirmishes. What do you remember that your father said?.

Update:

Sarah, I hope that you realize how lucky you are and that you let your father know how much you care for him.

Update 2:

llouise=

I believe that your father managed to transmit his love of poetry to you, somehow. We leave nothing behind but children and art.

May I apply to appear on your talk show?

As noted before, my father died when I was 2. I cannot remember his voice or anything he said. But I have an old black and white photo album of him with his original family and first wife. He wrote comments and notations below the photos. The one I chose to frame is him on the beach feeding the seagulls. He remarks, "They ate from my hands." I too enjoy feeding the birds. The vulture "shall tear your breast and thigh, On the tall tower...where you at length must lie", says Millay.

Now I am the hungry teenage boy, so to speak.*

You must be referring to W. Shatner's new book and show "Sh8t My Father Said." Recently, answering a question I said if I had my own talk show he would be my choice for first guest. Funny...

The difficulty of being a parent is complicated by the fact that your only model that you ordinarily have is your own parents. You know what they did wrong, but it is hard to avoid repeating those errors.

My father would sing song parodies that he wrote. "I'd live for you, I'd die for you. I bet I'd even shave for you. If that isn't love it will have to do until the real thing comes along."

It was years before I knew that there were real songs behind them.

My father is always saying things. He has a new saying every month.

His last saying was, "You'll have that on these big jobs."

He is always saying shweetie instead of sweetie.

One time he was saying, "Hey there partner." In a very annoying voice. lol
