How to get rid of a virus on my laptop? its taken over :(?

Last night when i was on my laptop it just like stopped working and this thing came up saying your computer is infected you need to but this software to use anything.

So now it wont let me go on anything - not even solitaire !!!

And it keeps opening weird internet pages like viagra :S

I have McAfee installed on my computer, it found no viruses

I have Malware and that wont get rid of it either - all that found was cookies.

I ran a full computer scan on both of these but neither found anything.

I can't do system restore because i have no places to restore to as my laptop got a virus a few weeks ago, i sent it off to be fixed and never thought to create a restore point which i really wish i had done now :(

So does anyone know how to get rid of this? My mum will be really annoyed if i have to pay for it to be sent off again

ThankingYou xx (:

Update:

I cna't remember the name of the thing it wants me to buy & i can't check atm because im not at my house.

It was american ('cos the price was in $)

And i think it began with an A but i wasnt paying enough attention

sorry :(

Update 2:

Are people thumbing down answers because they don't work? Or is it so you win best answer?

Update 3:

Yeah never mind, i'm getting my computer gut to fix it now as nothing else seems to be working "/

You HAVE to run the scans in Safe Mode*

Download, (if you can't get on-line, have a friend download and copy to disc/flash for transfer) install, update and then, in SAFE MODE* run full scans, with these programs...

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/

    http://www.superantispyware.com/

    http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=Ad... Ad-Aware free

*** Important, when downloaded/installed/updated disconnect from the internet ***

    Then re-start.

If you can't run a scan, go into the scanner's folder and re-name the .exe file to something like 'MyFile.exe' and try in safe mode again. Some malware prevent the execution of anti spy/mal/virus scans by blocking them by name.

You should consider getting a good Anti-Virus program.

Try one of these free ones...

    http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

    http://www.free-av.com/en/download/1/avira_antivir... (Avria)

    http://free.avg.com/download

***Never use more than one, active, anti-virus program at any one time***

*Note: On start up (before Windows loads) keep tapping either F5 or F8 (be aware that some manufacturers use F8 for system recovery!) then use arrow keys to highlight 'Safe Mode with networking' and hit Enter/Return, click on a user account, enter the Administrator password (if you don't know it, there probably isn't one so leave it blank) and hit Enter/Return.

there are packages sold in computer/office supply stores that are kind of expensive. 70 dollars i think? and somebody takes over your computer, gets rid of the viruses, and then gives ownership back to you. hope it helps. and sorry, viruses suck.
