I recently complained to my local supermarket that the ladies working at the deli counter?
didn't wear gloves when handling unpacked cooked meats and cheese, the supervisor told me that recent studies had shown that gloves were unhygienic and may even cause cross contamination. They now use a hand sanitizer instead, and hence, no gloves.
I've never heard this one before, has anyone else? I'd love to see a website showing this new insight!

You know what? Not so long ago NO ONE wore gloves and yet we all survived. I think gloves are actually weird and disgusting. I was in food service for about 15 years "back in the day." No one ever heard of wearing gloves or hand sanitizer and I don't know that anyone ever got sick.
I mean when you think about it, I don't think people change their gloves when they switch from handling meats and cheeses.
What worries me more is the bacteria on those meat slicers at the delis. I mean...do they really clean those good? I bet not.

Firstly, I wouldn't want someone touching my food straight after putting hand sanitizer on their hands. That stuff is strong and does transfer if not properly rubbed in and dried.
Secondly, I think gloves are ok WHEN they are changed properly. That is the biggest mistake. Gloves should be taken off after each order is finished, and BEFORE handing the person's money. And nothing erks me more when, as a vegetarian, I see someone prepare a big meaty order and then try to touch my cheese with those same gloves.

Quite honestly, what is the difference between wearing gloves and not waering gloves. Gloves can hold far more bacteria than human skin. If the person wearing the gloves is handling meat and then not removing the gloves to handle other items, the entire exercise is a waste of time.
The same person should not be handling both meat and cheese whether gloved or not

That's just not true. They need to be wearing gloves. Just the other day I was at the deli. The guy behind the counter was wearing gloves and was cleaning the slicer and counters. I had to ask him to change gloves. He was going to serve me with the same gloves he'd been cleaning with

Depends if they properly washed their hands prior to handling the food. Regarding the supervisor, she is somewhat correct. I've seen workers handle food then handle money then return to handling food again ... all without changing gloves.

Do you realise that every time you go out the eat at a restaurant, nobody touching your food in the kitchen has worn gloves? You steak is arranged on the plate by hand, your side salad is made with bare hands, your sandwich is made with bare hands, your bread is placed in the basket by hand.
Are you dead yet?

Sorry, I prefer gloves to having hand sanitizing chemicals and God knows what else in my food.

Eww, that's disgusting! I would of complained too. Gloves aren't unsanitary at all. If I were you I'd complain to the district manager.

Disgusting since they have nails.
Ask him if he's ever heard of tongs. A brilliant invention. Maybe even better than gloves.
