Does anyone else find it peculiar after a dog pees, the dog uses its hind legs to "cover" it?

i dont know. i find it kinda interesting. lol like even when they pee on grass they still like to move their hind legs it seems like for no reason.. its obvious that this habit is effective on dirt/sand..etc..

Yes. same here, though I have cat. but my cat does similar. I hate it though. because he keeps trying to cover his pee from the wrong place. instead of covering using the sand. he pulls nothing from the floor, or wall. or anything near the litter box. so he scratch, scratch, from the floor, then he checks his pee, it is still there, so he repeats and repeats (annoying sound) . then later he turns and put real sand.

It's something to do with scent marking their territory.

I used to have a dog that would kick his hind legs like that when he saw another dog. He'd kick up a storm instead of barking. I wonder why.

My Big Woof never did it until he saw another dog do it. Now he is too old to care.
