Do cops investigate "car jackings"?

Car jacking is stealing the car from the person, in the vehicle. It is considered a violent felony crime and punishable by up to 20 years in prison when you are caught.

What you describe is not car jacking. You are burglarizing cars. In many states your entry into the car, to steal something constitutes burglary. Even if the item you stole only amounts to a petty theft misdemeanor, the burglary is a felony crime. Depending on the State you are in, it is worth anywhere from three to ten years in prison.

It does not matter if your broke a window or found a open door, your entry is a burglary.

Since this is a felony crime, you can count on the police doing whatever it takes to nail you. It does not need to be fingerprints. What generally happens to characters like you is one of your little group of thieves gets caught in the act or when he brags about what a great thief he is. Once he is caught the cops will offer him a deal - Light punishment, or no punishment, if he rats out the rest of you. He'll squeal so fast it will make your head spin. If you keep this up, I'll bet you get nailed within the next couple months.

nope not true. the cops fingerprinted my car because my neighbor stole my speakers. and i left my car unlocked. usually they wont fingerprint if your popping doors but if you keep doing it the same person or keep hitting the same neighborhood enough times theyll try to catch you. and its not a car jacking thats a GTA which a serious offense. your just borrrowing withought permission lol

and P.S. if you ever decide to start selling this stuff be carefull about what you text and tell people. words goes around like tell a friend and they tell a "trusted" friend and they tell someone and so on and cops will even try to call you to buy your **** and set you up....stay alert

No, they can finger print a car if its stolen also. Owner reports it stolen and you left it on the side of the road and your finger print on it and owner doesn't know you, you are going in for grand theft. Grand theft a felony in most states, so then your ruined for college and getting a good job with your record.

what you are referring to is petit larceny...if stealing under 1,000 of stuff from the car.
