The two ways to get to Jersey are flying or ferry. I don't know where your friend is looking but I couldn't find a way to check prices for April next year, as the only options were to book up until March 2011.
The ferry in March next year from Weymouth or Portsmouth to Jersey would be about £60 return (as a foot passenger) depending on when you travel etc. However, you could also fly from Southampton Airport to Jersey in March next year for about £26 return.
I think Jersey is a really nice place to visit and I had a very good time there earlier this year.
