Cheap Roller Derby Skates?

Do you know where I can find some inexpensive roller derby skates, just so I can try it out? I've been interested in roller derby for awhile, but I'm also worried about getting in to it and deciding it's not for me. I don't want to spend $200 on gear, and then find out it's not for me. Any suggestions?

Also, I live in the Stockton, California area.

To find good deals on gear talk to some of the roller girls there, they usually know of the best places.

Cheap gear is online, skates that I recommend for people just looking to try it out is Rock GT-50's.

They are comfortable and affordable, pricing at about 100.

Also Check your local thrift stores for roller skates, you can find decent ones for really cheap, it's also a good place to look for wrist guards.

When it comes to Knee pads look at the local skate shops, and get the ones with the best padding since falling on your knees will happen a lot.

The more padded they are the easier it will be to bounce back up since they act as a shock absorber and a spring. Most Roller Derby establishments carry pads for temporary use...but they don't smell that great.

Even if you decide roller derby isn't for you, you can still volunteer to help out the league.

As Fresh Meat volunteering during bouts with an NSO job will help you understand derby more and the Rules of derby. One of the easiest volunteer jobs would probably be Line trackers, (this is where you basically keep track of your selected teams line ups.)

Best of Luck! I'm sure you'll love Roller derby, and will find that it's worth the investment.
