Help Setting up WiFi connection! Pleeeeaaassseee answer!?

I bought a Wireless-N 300 Router so I can connect my laptop to my home computer which is using Windows 7, but it wont work and I have no idea how to work computers well. I've connected the router with the yellow thingy, which i think is the ethernet cable to a D-Link modem, and put in the blue wire into the computer like it says. I've pretty much done what it says on the instructions.

Then it says to run the software disk and when i do it says:

"The Ethernet adapter is either disabled or no Ethernet adapter is installed on this Computer. Either enable or add an Ethernet adapter and run the application again."

How do I enable the ethernet and fix it without stuffing my whole internet connection up?

Thanks xx.

Update:

there isnt an internet connections button! D:

If you can find a command Window, enter the command -- ipconfig /all --. Without the --. In the response if there is an Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection, then there is an Ethernet Adapter installed. If you find a line that says Media Disconnected, then the cable is not making a connection at either the router or the computer or the cable is bad. Make sure that you have not been given a cross-over cable rather than a straight through cable by mistake. Check to make sure that the cables are plugged in totally, pull on a cable and if it pulls out then push it in until you hear the click.

I assume that you will not find the Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection. You will have to access Network Connections and when you do find the Local Area Connection, if it says "disabled", then right click on the icon and select "Enable". That should fix the problem, unless there is a problem with the Ethernet port, which may mean that you need to have it re-seated or fixed.
