Slow internet speed on new computer?
I recently got a new com ( see link below for specifications)
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+One+All-In-O...
My issue is the local area connection I use seems to be rather slow on this computer and I'm wondering if i can change some settings of some kind to fix that. The net im currently using is Clear-Wimax by motorola and the connection bar's are fine but the output on my computer seems to be negliable at best. Can i fix the net speed on my computer or would investing in a router to turn my connection wireless solve this issue?
well the default speed is 100.0 mbs, and i would be unsure if it was the connection or not tbh. I just don't recall it being this slow before; least on older computers.
I'm pretty computer literate but im not too familiar with internet settings and up-to-date connection speeds, etc so maybe u can shed some light on what i should be looking to get if that is indeed a slow or outdated speed; since from what i understand my uncle (whos net im using) pays almost 60$ for this one; and a cable net would be 50$ if i were to switch.
I took a speed test on the com to test its output and im only getting a dl speed of 0.85 mbs out of it; does this mean their is a problem with the connection or network on the com that is not processing the net correctly or something is set up inproperly?

Buying a router won't fix anything, what is your connection speed? If it's slow then that's the problem, buy a faster plan or call your ISP (they may be having temporary problems). Is the problem also with your private network (if you have one) or just with Internet?
Edit
You haven't mentioned what is your speed supposed to be, if it's 0.85Mbps then it's ok, if not then call your ISP.
100.0Mbps probably is the network adapter's speed (not your Internet speed) so...

You can download ccleaner for free here: http://bit.ly/1Bk5V5C
First open CCleaner
Go to the Cleaner tab and you will be confronted by a very confusing lineup of checkboxes.
To make this brief, below is my recommended setup:
Under internet explorer check temporary internet files, cookies, and last download location. Most users don't really need this stuff. keep history and bookmarks unchecked, history is a maybe, but you don't want to lose bookmarked sites. You can normally leave Windows Explorer, System, and Advanced alone.
Run CCleaner and it will start deleting files.
afterward it will present you with a list of the files deleted, you really don't need to go through it as it will be several pages long.
The registry cleaner is recommended for slightly more advanced users. Use it after uninstalling programs as they will often leave behind incorrect registry entries.
If you decide to run Registry cleaner then review the items detected and always back up the registry (I keep a folder aside for this)
The Tools tab lets you uninstall programs and set startup programs. Why do you need this if Windows has all of these features? Especially with Vista Home Ed. The windows defender software explorer( startup programs) doesn't pick up some entries (however software explorer is easier to use).
Using CCleaner to uninstall programs and then check for leftover registry entries takes less time.
Under Options you can determine how CCleaner cleans your files. I leave this alone.

Mosty likely your cause of internet slowness due to being a new computer is the Antivirus that came with it. Probably has McAfee or Norton. I have seen alot of manufactured installed Antivirus seem to do strange things and slowing down internet is one of them. Try uninstalling the antivirus and get Microsoft Security Essentials- its a free antivirus that works well.
