The reason for him retiring now is because his mother took a turn for the worse and wants to be with her. However I felt that he should have stepped down earlier in the season, that way the Cubs would have plenty of time to find a better replacement and who knows, maybe salvage at least a .500 season.
Under Lou Pinella, the Cubs managed to make the playoffs 2 times and finished over .500 3 consecutive years but like all the managers of this team he failed to do something that hasnt been done since Frank Chance was manager.

Lou Piniella merely could desire to be the main over rated supervisor of his time.he has controlled some notably good communities and has controlled merely one international sequence winner. He controlled a team in Seattle that gained 116 video games and could no longer get out of the ALDS.The Yankees have been no slouches and he have been given nowhere with them, the two.He stop on his team in Tampa Bay and that i've got surely no theory what made him so beautiful to the Cubs.look,be real looking for a minute and flow over his checklist. He has been dealing with for almost 23 years and has a triumphing proportion of .519.that consists of a team that grew to become into 70 video games over .500 in 2001 and a Reds team that grew to become into 20 video games over .500.So why is recognized as some style of genius?because of fact he throws a tantrum each and every so oftentimes?he's nice for a quote?he's not even the wonderful supervisor in Chicago and that i could no longer care much less approximately Lou Piniella "retiring"

It is sad, but either way he was planning to be retiring after this season anyways. But this wasn't how he was planning to do it, in the last month or 2 Lou Pineilla's family life has changed, his Uncle died, and his Mom is very sick, and there is no telling at this point if she will still be alive in October, when the Chicago Cubs season comes to an end. And I think he has decided at the right time to leave, and so does Jim Hendry. If he had start on, whether home or on the road, I am sure his Mom would be on his mind. But he gets to retire earlier then he was planning to, gets his last game at Wrigley Field, rather then having his last game as Cubs manger at Minute Maid Park. And it would be nice to see him go out with a bang, but I would not like to see him leave, by being ejected from today's game by one of the umpires, and then have him watch the rest of the game, viva on TV in his office.

Lou will be missed, he did a lot for the game over many years. But he is dealing with a mother with a lot of health problems, and it would be stupid to sacrifice his family time for a bad team that is going absolutely nowhere. None of us would put our jobs ahead of our family; we should not expect Lou to do so either.

Like you, I think it's very sad.
He is one respectable manager, the Cubs are very lucky to have him (kinda...). They need someone, who will take no more of their non - sense.

I'm glad that he put his priorities straight.
If my mom was seriously ill, I would've been out of there weeks ago. The way people are treating him for leaving the Cubs is ridiculous.
