Self respect is fine and commendable. Arrogance, on the other hand, isn't the best trait to have. Pride is more arrogant than respectful towards yourself.

Excessive pride is bad. Hubris: the demise of so many.. This is often what caused the fall in stories of great heroes. You start to imagine you are above defeat. Example: You think you're so smart, you don't study for a test. End result: you fail. It also makes you come across as big-headed and narcissistic.
Pride is also good. If you don't take pride in your home, or yourself, you'll end up with a demolished house and poor hygiene. It's good for confidence. Example: if you get a high score on a test, you should be proud. You earned it. But, just don't think that means you can do that again automatically. Having pride in your country, ethnicity is good. It shows that you are proud of who you are and where you came from, but you can have so much that you see other countries and ethnicities as lower than yours.. That's bad.

Pride is the thing that gets you in the shower and dressed on days when you know nothing's gonna happen.

is good to have pride but when its too much pride, you end up thinking you're better that everybody else. Trust me, i have a friend (not really a friend anymore lol) she always thinks she's above everybody else & never makes mistakes. Meanwhile people keep saying how full of herself & full of sh*t she is, but not to her face of course! lol
