Rescue files from an Ipod Video 30gb with a dead battery?

Please help!

I tried to replace the battery on my ipod video 30gb but it hasn't worked and now the ipod doesn't charge. It does turn on when plugged into a mains charger but when connected to a pc via usb i get the message "Please wait, very low battery".

My problem is that I use the ipod as a usb memory drive and have some very important files saved on it which i need to download. The PC cannot see the drive because there is insufficient power from the USB to turn it on.

How can I get the saved files from the Ipod hard drive?

Well if the battery is the only problem i would try to see why it isnt working. Look for a guide online about how to reaplace ipod video batterys and make sure you did it properly anf if the new battery is broken try buying a new one and installing it. If you just want the files try forceing the ipod into disk mode while connected to your computer by holding in the center button and menu to reset it then after the screen shuts off hold in play and center button. Or just take the hard drive out and put it in another ipod video their only connected to the ipod with a small removeable ribbon cable.
