Are MMORPG parties supposed to be like this?

I have played several MMORPG for some time and in my opinion a lot of people make parties because its an easy way to gain experience and good items, much easier than by yourself. In many games whoever gets the kill, gets the items. I don´t think you're getting ripped off or anything (well sometimes it can be a REAL scam, but you should notice when that happens). If you are a low level, sticking with a party might be a good idea until you can do mission by yourself and then you can get your own items, or find low level parties, help them level up and it should make the mission a lot easier, besides YOU WILL BE THE ONE GETTING THE ITEMS BY THEN.

(Many parties use low levels as shields against strong monsters, or get them killed to take their stuff, but thats something you only find out by playing, knowing the players and the missions)

Well thats exactly how parties are in MmoRpgs

Some share items, Some share Exp Points, And Parties are mostly for the strong monsters in the game not the new ones. i wouldnt join a party till im a higher level if i were you.

They are just using you because your new to MMO's. It shouldn't be like that! Party loots also have an option like Free for all or Auto distribution! Don't party with that kind of people!

you are being ripped off hun. It kinda sounds like runescape. You should always be able to get your items if you make the kill. Unless you say otherwise.
