Will Diablo 3 characters be separated by single/multi-player again?

In Diablo 2, you couldn't play single player characters online with others, and you couldn't play online characters if you weren't online. Will this be different in D3? I'd hate to have to level the same class twice again.

it's too early to tell. but with the battlenet requirement, i guess you dont have to since your characters will be updated on battlenet anyway. So you dont have to keep2 characters, 1 for single player and the other for multiplayer.

8pm to 4am every night IS excessive, but I agree that deleting your character was not the right way around things. It's not going to stop you from playing. If anything it will just make you both argue and you will be on the computer for an even longer time making a new one. My partner (when we were first together and before we broke up for while) was totally addicted to XBox live. It wasn't just a few hours a day either, it was constant. The only person that eventually changed it was him. Maybe you need to find where your priorities lay. Do you love your girlfriend to do this just some nights a week and not every night? I can see why it upsets her.
