Nah. They'll keep it as long as people are still playing PS3 online games. I mean... the original Xbox Live was just shut down a couple months ago... and they haven't been making the original Xbox for several years now. PS2 online games still work great, but eventually I suppose, the architecture is going to have to be retired. So maybe 4 or 5 years after the PS4 comes out the PS3 online architecture will be shut down. Maybe the PS4 online system will just build upon the PS3 online system and it will never be shut down. There's no real way to guess.

It will definitely still be running after the PS4's launch. Tell him what he's heard (or made up) is 100% false.
And besides, the PlayStation Network isn't just for PS3. Sony is making it so PSN will flow through all Sony products. Shutting it down would shut it all down. Also, PSN runs on dedicated servers, so the entire system doesn't get shut down, but only specific games that no one plays anymore. Sony isn't the one who shuts those down. The developers of that game are the ones with that power.

Are you kidding me?
Most game company's barley can keep up with the PS3's technology.. plus it would be a stupid move on sony's part with the economy is the way it is right now..
I don't see a PS4 coming out in the next 3-5 years.. just don't believe someone because they read some stupid playstation console release date tree
