Why won't some websites open via ip address?

Some websites can be opened via entering it's ip address into the address bar or your browser, but others will not, and require a url, does anyone know what the difference is? For example: www.d2jsp.org's ip address is 208.110.65.133 and can be opened using that instead of the url. However, www.ufc.com's ip address is 67.148.147.107, but this ip will not access the site.

Thanks

Many sites are hosted on systems that contain hundreds of sites.

The IP will in many cases point to the hosting server, but will not specify the site.

Source(s): I have noticed this on my own domain on different hosting services

It's possible that your apache is configured to only listen on localhost - which is unusual but possible. A more likely explanation is that you have some kind of firewall blocking access. If you're using Linux check if iptables is loaded. If Windows XP+, check the Windows firewall as well as any antivirus products you have - some of them also have their own firewall.
