Laptop for Music Production?
I am an inspiring music producer and I would like to know what kind of laptop to get???
I am going to need one for college anyway and even though I hate Macs a lot of people tell me to get the macbook pro, which is fine but I have a few questions
1. Is 13 inches fine for music production or is it inconvenient?
2. Is 2.66 ghz intel dual core duo fine for music production with multiple programs at a time like ableton live, massive, protools, etc...?
3. Is 4gb of RAM enough for the same as above
4. Does the graphics card matter at all?
5. What does getting an external sound card mean and is that recomennded or is the built in audio good enough?
6. What is the downside of having a SATA hard disk instead of a solid state hard disk? because for the incredible price difference it has to be huge
thanks alot for any help :D

I found out the hard way that laptops are awful for music production. They are rarely grounded properly internally, and as a result they can cause this awful buzz in speakers connected to them.
You can use a power conditioner to overcome this, but they are like $100 glorified power strips. If you run into buzzing on your speakers, look into this.
I would go for a 15 inch monitor, more space for the sequencer. Processor looks good, 4GB ram might be overkill, 3 should be fine. Graphics card doesn't really matter.
The built in audio cards for laptops are terrible, get an external USB sound card. SATA drives are also fine, solid state is an expensive and fancy new technology.

Hi Andrei,
You should also check out the Dell Studio XPS 16. It's a great value at $949 and is an excellent multi-media laptop with Soundblaster X-Fi Hi Def Audio. It has a 16" display and a backlit keyboard.
I hope this is helpful! Check out more specs through the link below.
Cheers,
Isabella
