Can I fight the move over law? Did not have sufficient time to slow down?

I was driving down a in the left lane of a 4-lane highway behind some larger sized vehicles with a single vehicle directly beside me. All of a sudden all the vehicles in front of me switched to the next lane at which point an officer with his lights on came into view not too far in front of me, at which point I immediately tried to slow down (brakes held) and move into the other lane. Only problem was is the driver beside me decided to slow down as well and prevent me from moving into the other lane. I was only able to get about 15 MPH under the speed limit (though the cop claimed only 5). I looked at my speedometer before i passed him and the needle was just under 50 and I still had a little more room to slow down.

And to give a little more info on the scene:

*the speed limit on this road is 60 MPH. There was a car directly beside me the entire time, it was the only care in that lane besides the 3 full sized trucks that had just recently switched lanes. My sister was with me and can contest to my story. I kinda showed my ass after he wrote the ticket and told me how much it was going to cost ($386 which is more than two weeks pay for me). But was fairly calm and polite prior to being handed the ticket.

Update:

Oh and its in NC

Update 2:

well im sorry about misusing the word contest, its late and ive had a long day.

As I said I did not have sufficient time to slow down from the point i saw the cop to the point I reached him. All the while there was a vehicle in the other lane making it impossible to move over.

Update 3:

I was not closely following the vehicle in front of me. It was a very large vehicle and the cop and the guy he pulled over were almost stopped in the lane of traffic

If you sister can contest your story, that means she disagrees with you.

You may not play your music so loud so as not being able to hear emergency vehicles.

When an emergency vehicle approaches, you have to figure out how to pull to the right and STOP as soon as safely possible. Not slow down 10 or 15 mph.

    You lose.

If you hadn't been following the vehicle in front of you too close before he moved over, you would have had time to slow down. (And you know it.)

EDIT: You were following too close. That is the only thing that could possibly have caused this. If you had not been following too close, you simply would have seen the cop in time. If you don't admit this to yourself, you are not going to learn a lesson you need to learn here. End of story.

Get an attorney, you can't slow down when there are multiple vehicles that are 13'6" plus in front of you and your """"Fileld of Vision"""""" was Obstructed...Get the officer to admit to that and you walk...I would have showed him pictures of his daddy licking my cream out of his mamas crack, so what??

Part Two: As soon as you saw the officer you were unable to """Safely"""" comply due to traffic...

Third: As soon as you were able to see visibly you slowed to a safe speed and "Attempted"""to be compliant....See the words I use....

Your ending statement is you exercised """Due Diligence"""..

You got a case....No way he got a clear radar shot if traffic was as bad as you portray it....

Calling him an a hole does not justify the citation, period..Fight now or fall forever..

You're mad, and you should be if it happened the way you say it did...

Source(s): I have CDL and was driving a big rig, found at no fault by the Pennysylvania Highway Patrol and my own driving company...But just because a little jerk off with an associates in criminal just said quote "I Feel" like you were responsible in some part, cost me 700 bucks over not the law but "I Feel" that simple.. I won, for 700 hundred dollars.. Funny, the laws looks the other way if the price is right...
