House spider, still in living room? HEEELP?
Last night we were watching tv when a HUUUUGE house spider ran across the floor and under our tv cabinet. We just went straight up to bed. I am now scared to go in the living room incase its still there.
Do these insects travel a lot? ie. is it likely that it will not be there anymore. we are in england and it was just a common house spider

I HATE those!! It was probably a male spider as they are the only ones that really go travelling. They can travel far and i doubt it would be in the same place you last saw it.
What i do is get a spray - furniture polish[although be careful if you have wood or tile floors...], air freshener etc and spray it into all the nooks and crannys - from a distance! To see if it will scare it out, when it does come into the open, i step on it.
Good luck.
Remember that if you don't find it in that room, then it is possible it could have gotten into another room.

Since this was very likely a male looking for females, it's probably moved on by now - they cover a lot of ground. Late summer/early fall is the time when you see a lot more spiders running around in houses, thogh, so you may see that one or another one like it over the next month or so. For what it's worth, and I'm sure you already know this, apart from the shock to your system, they're quite harmless.

a spider isn't an insect. spiders can wander quite far until they find a place to hang out. If you see it again, kill it, since you seem to dislike it so much. use a shoe or something. I don't particularly like the big black spiders in my house, but the others are fine as long as they stay away from me.

It's probably still there, but it's just a cute little spider. Your foot is over 9000 times bigger and is already giving Spidey nightmares. (Alternatively, you could catch it in a jar and take it outside <3).
Edit: Let it bite you, you might turn into Spiderman.

It will be waiting for you, watching your every move from either above or below. I suggest you travel with caution for they are fast and you never now when they will jump and bite you. Now it may or maynot be poisonus but their bite hurts like a *****. I say it's dangerous to go alone so take a RAID with you.
