Is it ok to use Monty Roberts 'Join Up'?
I was just wondering if you needed any qualifications or anything to be allowed to try the 'Join Up' or can anyone try it? Is it safe and easy for me to do it without supervision of Monty or any qualified horsemen/women?

If you use this method, you need to be very confident and experienced. A horse is a complicated creature and Join Up is a way to connect with and bond with it. You have to go into it knowing that you are the boss and that they horse you are working with will listen to your ques and body language.
There is a lot more involved than the dvd's show you, and you need to have a lot of patience. I professionally train Monty Robert's Join Up with all of my horses/clients and I've been doing it for years. Ive also met Monty and his horses, seen him work, and read/watched every book and dvd out there about his work.
You do not need to do all of that, but I would suggest getting a lot more experience before you try it because it is just as much you as it is the horse in this method of training. Good luck!

You don't need any kind of special training, but if your horse is ill-tempered (if there is any chance he will rear, kick, etc. while you're working with him) then you might want a more qualified person to work with him, at least for the first few sessions.
There are books, DVDs, and websites that explain how to safely and correctly do Join Up. Make sure you know what to do before you start. If it helps, watch an experienced horse owner do Join Up so you have some idea of what should happen.
Join Up is a relatively easy exercise, so it shouldn't be any trouble if you have a little experience longeing or working in a round pen.

You dont need any qualifications or supervision of any kind when trying the Join Up. But like stated above, you do need confidence. If you go in having to think, crap what do i do next? Or mannnnn i dont think im doing this right, why cant i do this, why isnt he doing it? then it wont work. Horses know what you know, but most importantly they know what you DONT know. Be the boss, be the leader. and be confident.

Anyone can try Join Up but you do really need to know exactly what you are doing and to be able to read the signals the horse gives out.
It looks easy on DVD but you have to be very subtle and confident.

You don't need qualifications to do join up but you do need confidence. you need to go in believing your the boss and the horse will do as you say that way the horse will think your the boss and begin to listen. I would recommend wearing your hat for the first time because you don't know what the horse will do.
hope it works out for you :)

yes it is fine to use the join up so long as you know a little about horses, you might want supervision in case something goes wrong but i know someone who has done it and she said it was amazing, the horse follows her everywhere and when she arrives at the field everyday he just wonders around behind her.

The Monty Roberts police aren't going to come give you a ticket for not being an authority first.
lol
What a weird question.
It's safe if you know what you're doing.
It can be not safe if you have no idea.

If you have any horses sense at all you will be able to do it yourself, unless you are handling one of those mean go after you horses.f
You may have to get after him to make him turn and face you but that is ok, just keep after him and always take a step or two back when he faces you that will encourage him to step toward you.
