are you an internet Mormon or a chapel Mormon (possibly asked in the wrong place to get an accurate answer :-)?
are you an Internet Mormon or a Chapel Mormon
#1 Chapel Mormons will typically try and bend science to fit the prophets. Internet Mormons typically try to bend the prophets to fit science.
#2 When the apologists contradict the prophets, Chapel Mormons almost always go with the prophets, while Internet Mormons almost always go with the apologists.
#3 Chapel Mormons believe the Lehite colony landed in a New World devoid of inhabitants save, perhaps, for at least one remaining Jaredite. Internet Mormons believe the Lehite colony landed in a New World filled with Asiatic inhabitants.
#4 Chapel Mormons believe that Joseph Smith was correct and that the Hill Cumorah was located in Western New York and was the same hill from which he retrieved the Golden Plates. Internet Mormons believe that FARMS is correct and that the Hill Cumorah was located somewhere in Southern Mexico.
#5 When discussing the words of the prophets, Chapel Mormons almost never say "it was only his opinion," believing that a prophet's words and God's words are essentially one and the same. Internet Mormons, on the other hand, very often say "it was only his opinion."
#6 Chapel Mormons tend to take a prophet's words at face value. Internet Mormons often "filter" a prophet's words through both his local cultural influences and his limited sphere of knowledge.
So... just 6 points
do you score mostly C (Chapel) or I (Internet)?
@ Mr Packaging..... one could make the same comment about your answer, especially as you chose to come onto the 'R&S section, and read my question
hypocrite much?
@ wispy... nice sideswipe, lets pretend that there are no differences... I am afraid I have been there and done that.
I know only too well the differences between the keyboard stripling warriors and the chapel folk... I am just trying to get some of them out into the open
(although I realise that is something that keyboard striplings hate)

A mix, I guess.
I find this interesting, because I just came across a podcast last night that mentioned this. It was the first time I heard about the theory in differences, and now I see this questions tonight.
#1- Obviously neither can answer this, because both believe that neither 'needs' bending to fit the truth. I personally would trust the words of a prophet in general conference over that of a scientist.
#2- same thing. If a Prophet, speaking as a prophet, said something to contradict an apologist, I would go with the prophet.
#3- Not sure where I stand on this. I certainly don't think either position is undefendable. I guess this makes me an "Internet Mormon" on this point.
#4- Definitely a 'Chapel Mormon' here. I believe that most of the BoM took place in central america, but that the last parts of the Book (where it talks about the final wars between the Nephites and Lamanites) took place all across North America. I also believe that the Hill Cumorah where the plates were burried is the same Hill Cumorah where they were recovered by Joseph Smith.
#5- is again biased. Where there is no contradictions, I always follow the prophet. Where the Prophet's words contradict what the modern day prophet says on the matter, I follow the modern-day Prophet. It is a good thing to know that no contradictions exist in General Conference talks. When the Prophets speak as Prophets, they are infallible.
#6- Face value, for the most part. When there is a seeming contradiction with another prophet, you have to consider which part of the picture either you or the prophet was looking at at the time.
Source(s): I am 4-1 a Chapel Mormon, by these points (excluding point 1, which noone can really faily answer about themselves) If you get a different score from reading my answers, please feel free to say so. Good question. - ?Lv 45 years ago
To be truthful i think of everybody here's a mixture of a few proportion, even even with the undeniable fact that some(like myself) are bodily no longer able to attend a chapel frequently and use the cyber web to fill the gaps.I additionally understand a member who's many miles from a chapel and rather makes use of Y/A to stay in touch with the persons of the church.

Well I would say i'm an internet-chapel Mormon but the way you've defined them to be polar opposites I would have to say... You know I can't think of an explanation that doesn't involve the double slit experiment or Schroedinger's cat, I'll have to get back to you.

*yawns* Sorry, don't know where this load of internet junk comes from, because it is junk. A lot of Mormons use the internet, I've been amazed at all the resources that LDS.org has put out, for example a lot of us hit the web for resources such as talks, General Conference messages, Program guides. You make it sound like a lot of us because of our religious beliefs are like country bumpkins or perhaps as if we were Amish. None of us are forbidden from using the internet and none of us are forbidden from looking up whatever we want on it. The church seems to make good use of the internet, despite what others think.

I have enough labels and don't care to assign myself anymore;and might I add I am LDS; which designation includes some, but not all Mormons, and is the true matter of import as far as this question is concerned,

ok pal, as you already know, most mormons who answer questions here are internet mormons. there are probably a few chapel mormons who are mostly young people, but after spending time discussing mormonism on the internet they will either become internet mormons, or will become inactive or ex-mormons. once they get in too deep there is no going back to the state of ignorance bliss that they had in the chapel.

How about, none of the above?
I don't care what you've been and done. I've been there done that, too, and I say, none of the above.
