lovely places to visit in the UK?

On Thursday I was really fed up at looking at four walls, so I threw some clothes into a bag, got into my car, and went out. I finished up on the way to Blackpool and then went on to Clevelys, sat in my Car, and looked out to Sea, and thought to myself that we are very lucky in this Country to have such a lovely Countryside to enjoy. So I booked into an Hotel, and was pleased to see that I was booked into a Room looking over the Sea. I went out for Dinner and after, sat once again looking at the beauty of it all, and watching the People taking an evening stroll before going to bed. so came back and booked another night so I could explore some more of this Coastline the following day. After my small episode of all this I came back home feeling quite pleased that I had made that visit seeing that my Husband and I spent our Honeymoon there , and enjoyed that as well seeing that was over sixty three years ago. Sadly though he was not here to enjoy a second time around, but he was still with me as I sat in my Car thinking about him.

Gosh Lowjoy - I expect that at your age you must know considerably more about the best and worst places in the UK than practically anyone else on the Yahoo forum! You must have seen so much change in the countryside since you were a child. My mother, for instance, often talked about the dolphins that used to play off the coast of East Anglia - that was a different world to today's.

The UK is lucky in having such a variety of environments. Beautiful countryside, architecture, coastlines, nature reserves, busy cities, or traditional villages. My son is a building freak so I often get dragged around historic buildings. I expect for you, though, that many of the loveliest places will be those with the richest memories from the past.

You are right. There is so much to enjoy in the UK. The weather doesn't always fit in with our holiday plans but it makes everything green!

I love The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the coast of SW England. The mountains in Mid Wales. The quiet of the Scottish Borders Scottish Highlands and the mountains of Northern Ireland. The unspoilt English countryside in Wiltshire. I love messing about in boats on te inland waterways, seeing the UK through the "back door".

I love small villages and market towns. I love the unspoilt pars of the cities.

I'm glad to hear you had a good time!

The whole of the south coast, from Dorset to Land's end, is really nice. The Scottish Highlands and around Snowdonia in Wales are my favourite areas, I like mountains.
