How can I avoid emotional detox when coming off Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo birth control?
I am on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo as birth control, and I have been for about the past two years. I am now looking to come off of it, but I know I have had strong emotional reactions when I have missed pills in the past. (Since I am no longer sexually active, I have been simply missing a pill and just starting the next pack a day later than I would have, because whenever I take two pills in one day I end up throwing them up all night, so it's pointless.) For the next few days after I miss a pill, I will be anxious, weepy, and irritable. The same happens in the first few days of my taking the placebo pills.
So I'm wondering if there is a way I could lessen the emotional detox so my hormones and emotions can go back to normal. Could I take half a pill a day, instead of stopping cold turkey? Or would that just make it worse?
Does anyone know how long it takes for the emotions to return to normal again once you are no longer taking Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo? I am just worried because I am looking forward to a challenging semester in college, so I don't want to be panicky and teary for the majority of it if there is a way I can avoid that. Or perhaps it's not actually as bad as I think it will be?
Please let me know what you think, and thank you very much. Your help is very much appreciated.
I just want to make sure I was clear about my intentions. I'm not looking to switch birth controls, but to come completely off of them. I have no need for them any more, and I'm looking to be just me again. Thanks to Amanda for your answer, but I'm looking for info about the emotional effects of coming completely off of birth control.
Thanks, all!

same thing used to happen with me. those pills MESSED me up. i was still getting my period 7 times a month for 2 or 3 days. and i was a raging *****. i got put on Loestrin 24 Fe and has changed my life, seriously. better hormone control, AMAZING birth control and mood stabilizer. shorter and lighter periods too!!!
keep yourself busy and hydrated. take a bath and listen to music that will keep your spirits up!!
also talk to someone, a friend, therapist, i talk to my dog sometimes if my boyfriend isnt around. you just have to remind yourself that you are still you and that its the pills being whacky. talk to an ob/gyn and switch pills. thats my advice!!
