Should I be replacing my freewheel every three months?

This past year I have had to replace my freewheel on my mountain bike 2 times at this point. It looks like it is time to do it again. I have been replacing the chain as needed. I clean and lube the chain regularly. What could be going on to make the freewheel wear out as much as it is. Or is it normal. I ride everyday from anywhere from 10 to 20 miles.

First off, chains stretch. Park and some other companies make a tool to measure if your chain needs replacing. Because technically you should be replacing your chain and freewheel/ cogs at the same time.

Replace the chain anytime you replace the cassette. A worn chain will destroy a new cassete very quickly. Check for chain wear and replace it before it stretches too far. Clean and lube the chain one a week.

Even riding a lot you shuold not have to do that. Check your chain for stretching.

yeah, that shouldn't happen. Did you buy a low-quality department store bike?
