Do you think that Liberals and Conservatives can reach an agreement before it's too late for America?

I know Conservatives have their own way of thinking and we have our own way of thinking (I'm a liberal). Do you think we can reach a halfway point and reach agreements on issues to get this ball rolling and get America back on track. I need both sides to think optimistic when answering this question. :)

I'll be honest with you, I can't agree with Conservatives on a thing, not a single issue. Believe me, I tried hard to think of one thing I could find common ground with them on, but your average Conservative is pretty much diametrically opposed to me on all major issues.

I am a conservative and I believe we should stop spending money we don't have. The liberals insist that is the only way to go. I think we should secure our borders against illegal immigrants, drug smugglers, gun runners and terrorists. Liberals want an open border where none are refused admittance. I know that lower business taxes will create more jobs and thus more revenue to the government and stimulate the economy. Liberals believe we should tax companies into bankruptcy to pay for entitlements. I think we should have a strong military to protect us from our enemies. Liberals want to get rid of the military and dismantle the pentagon and rely on the good will of our enemies.

I believe in common sense solutions that are proven to work. Liberals believe in an ideology that has failed every time it has been tried.

The richest countries in the world are capitalist countries. The poorest are non capitalist. And when they are going bankrupt they turn to the richest most capitalistic country in the world for a bailout. America. And for decades we have forked over money so they could continue their failed policies. Liberals insist we use those same policies to run our country.

The democratic countries have the most personal liberties and freedoms for their people and the lowest level of discrimination. US, UK, Canada, etc. All other forms of government, communist, marxist, socialist and outright dictatorships, have the fewest liberties and freedoms and high rates of discrimination. And the liberals want us to move away from democracy and toward more and more government control.

In short, conservatives tend to believe in reality and liberals tend to believe in magical unicorns. How can these two sides reconcile? The liberals refuse to move toward reality and conservatives know that believing in mythical, non existent creatures is just crazy.

No. No way. We are too polarized.

We need a Ross Perot-type (correction, a CREDIBLE Ross-Perot-type) independent to step out of the woodwork and find a middle way. Maybe someone like Angus King.

Like Mark Warner, the former governor and current Senator from Virginia said, in his 2008 keynote speech, "People don't care if there is an R or a D after an idea, as long as it is a good one."

No! The House and Senate are corrupted and a cleaning is long over due. the people still need action from some agency to hang those who have stolen our life's savings. Where in the heck are those who are to protect the American Public from enemies both foreign and DOMESTIC! we were attacked and hit financially. the People can no longer put up with such a inept Government who's primary purpose is to protect those whose feed it.

Tea Party all the way! f..k the LIBs and Cons.

No. Compromise for a republican is when a liberal surrenders and does what the Conservative wanted in the first place.

There is no way to reach an agreement when the other side acts in bad faith.

I believe the country will have to be much further in crisis before the politicians give up their selfish bickering and decide to lead our country out of this mess. I am so very disappointed in our Congress and our judges. I believe Obama is fine and is trying to do the right thing but how can he? Congress rips up every bill and makes it meaningless by the time it is passed. The courts have forgotten what the constitution looks like.

  • Probably not. Since the way it is going on both sides, it will probably be left up with the real common sense vs. the political sense.

No. Conservatives tell us we MUST let the free market turn America into a third world country, liberals say, no. There's no way to reach a middle ground on that one.

I only have one liberal friend (relatives don't count) and we actually seem to agree more than disagree.

When we disagree, we 'debate' until the other persons point of view is understood.

That proves to me there is hope.

However neither of us has to 'stick to their guns' because of political posturing.

All of my optimistic efforts to find common ground with liberals resulted in the usual poisonous name calling and hysterics that prevented them from facing the truth
