* DIGIC III image processor provides fast,
* Accurate image processing; Live View Function

In terms of quality or getting the job done, you can't go wrong with Nikon or Canon. They are both excellent brands. However you do get what you pay for. If you buy a $600 camera, you get quality from a $600 camera. If you buy a $1000 camera, expect to get quality and picture from a $1000 camera. Personally I have had better experience with customer service from Nikon.

at the beginner level almost all cameras are identical. Once you take your first DSLR camera, that is the brand you will most likely use for the rest of your life, just because you will have lenses that fit.
both are most excellent, but stick with Nikon or Canon. I am Nikon, Jim A is Canon, etc etc etc.

Hey,
For indoors and outdoors, you need a camera with low amount of noise and probably a flash later.
Canon EOS XSi, T1i, T2i, 60D and Nikon D3100, D5000 and D90.
Here's a post called 'Buying a DSLR, what's important, megapixels, features, brand, price, quality - http://www.the-dslr-photographer.com/2009/03/which...
Good luck. That site has more tutorials etc.

There's a zillion discussions about this around.
Go to a shop, pick up a nikon d3100 and a d5000. Then look at the two cheapest rebels and see which one you prefer.
all are excellent cameras.

You need the camera with the least "things" (or that can be removed) in the viewfinder. So you can concentrate on the baby and its movements. YOU need to be comfortable with the camera. This boils down to a personal choice.

Indoors, with a maximum ISO of 12800, there's no need for flash to startle the baby. Outdoors, when baby starts to really move about, a shutter speed of 1/6000 of a second would come in handy.
