CANARY: After mating how long female canary takes time to lay eggs.?

In my experience, I use breeding cages with a removable divider. I place the hen on one side with the nest and materials. Once she starts building the nest, I remove the divider. Most times (but not always) the male will help her build the nest. In one or two days, the hen will produce her first egg, but won't sit full time. She will produce 3 or four eggs and start incubating in earnest. Normally, my birds will produce the first 3 or 4 eggs two days apart. Many breeders will remove the first 3 eggs and replace them with false eggs, reserving the original eggs in a container of seeds (for cushion). I have actually used M&M Almonds since they are the same size as canary eggs. False eggs insure that the eggs hatch all in the next two days. In 14 days, the eggs will hatch. They grow very fast, so size matters, since the first chicks can trample the later hatching's. In 14 days later, they will be ready to leave the nest, fully feathered. (note, I use a teaspoon to move the eggs since they are very fragile and break easily) Good luck!
