When did schools go from only 8th grade to being 12th grades?

    Well for as long as there has been formal schooling there has been some sort of higher education (highschool or college) but schooling was often only for young men because the women were expected to stay home and learn from their mother. also many kids would only go to school until 8th grade or so, so they could go home to help work on the farm.

    They have always gone through the 12th in the US. However, before WWII a high school education was considered a good education. After the war a college education started becoming more of the norm.
