My Husband went to Pius IX high school, it was run and overseen by this same order of brothers. Some of the same brothers who were at Mt. Cashel ran the school and taught there. It's lucky for my husband that it was a day school and that he was not affected by the abuse that went on in Newfoundland. He's been told that in the last fifteen years, almost all the brothers that have been accused are now in prison.
It's been horrible for the people who this has happened to, many religious institutions that the Government did not supervise closely, have gotten away literally with murder and abuse and terrible brutality. I am reminded of the the Duplessis orphans and the abuse Native children suffered in the schools. It seems to be a better world for children now, that's one thing I am thankful for.

The Catholic church has a tradition of abusing children of both sexes and then covering it up. They REALLY like to abuse boys, but they'll abuse girls, too. Since the Church is politically powerful, as well as being a major player in the religious arena, they've been mostly getting away with it too. The Church officials frequently blame the victim, and pressure the victim to not press charges.
Now, with modern surveillance techniques, a lot of abuse is coming out in the open.
Sometimes they take a break from playing "pass the pedophile" and play "pass the terrorist" instead.
Note that ordinary Catholics are usually NOT involved in this sort of thing, it's just the people in the Church hierarchy.

It's because people like to keep abuse of children in institutions covered up. People with power and authority make sure justice is never served. That website reminds me of the Sad Orphan website, which is about the children's home in Florida. Those children went through absolute hell, and nothing was ever done about it. I'll post a link in a sec.

Some have received some justice. It is indeed a total affront on human rights for anyone to be made dependent on cruel, sadistic, disturbed people. It happens to women as well as men. It is perpetrated by women as well as men.

It is a shame to the nations, to mankind and to the church.
I don't understand it.
