According to NOAA, the average depth of the ocean is about 4,267 meters (14,000 feet). The deepest part of the ocean is called the Challenger Deep and is located beneath the western Pacific Ocean in the southern end of the Mariana Trench, which runs several hundred kilometers southwest of the U.S. territorial island of Guam. The Challenger Deep is approximately 11,030 meters (36,200 feet) deep, estimated.

It is named after the British survey ship Challenger II, which first surveyed the trench in 1951.

In 1960, the US Navy sent the Trieste bathyscaphe, which actually sat on the bottom for about fifteen minutes at a confirmed depth of 10,923 m (35,838 ft).

The deepest measurement yet made of the Challenger Deep was done in 2008 by the Japanese using an AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) and sonar ranger to measure a total depth of... 35,838 feet. Just like the Trieste measured in 1960.

Marianas Trench The Mariana Trench is placed interior the Pacific Ocean, purely east of the 14 Mariana Islands (eleven"21' North selection and 142" 12' East longitude ) close to Japan. As you probable already comprehend, this is the non-public portion of the earth's oceans, and the non-public region of the earth itself. It become created by using ocean-to-ocean subduction, a phenomena wherein a plate crowned by using oceanic crust is subducted under yet another plate crowned by using oceanic crust. yet purely how deep is the Mariana Trench? first of all, indexed right here are the user-friendly depths of the earth's oceans; the Arctic Ocean is a million,038 meters (3,407 ft) deep, the Indian Ocean is 3,872 meters (12,740 ft) deep, the Atlantic Ocean is 3,872 meters (12,254 ft) deep and the Pacific Ocean is 4,188 meters (13,740 ft) deep. The private think approximately each and every of the earth's oceans are as follows; the Arctic Ocean's Eurasian Basin at 5,450 meters (17,881 ft) deep, the Indian Ocean's Java Trench at 7,725 meters (25,344 ft) deep, the Atlantic Ocean's Puerto Rico Trench at 8,648 meters (28,374 ft) deep and the Pacific Ocean's Mariana Trench at eleven,033 meters (36,201 ft) deep. The private factor of the Mariana Trench is termed The Challenger Deep , so named after the British exploration vessel HMS Challenger II, and this is placed 210 miles south-west of Guam. This intensity become reached in 1960 by using the Trieste, a manned submersible owned by using the U.S. military. with the intention to extra efficient illustrate the certainly intensity of the Mariana Trench, evaluate right here; if Mount Everest, that's the tallest factor on the earth at 8,850 meters (29,0.5 ft), have been set interior the Mariana Trench, there could nonetheless be 2,183 meters (7,166 ft) of water left above it. The Mariana Trench is in many cases used as a North-South passage by using submarines as this is a element of an prolonged gadget of trenches that circle the Pacific Ocean, related with the Japan and Kuril Trenches.

The deepest place in the oceans is in the Pacific Ocean just east of the Marianas Islands in a place called the Marianas Trench. The Mariana Trench is the deepest part of the world's oceans, and the lowest elevation of the surface of the Earth's crust. It is located in the western Pacific Ocean, to the east of the Mariana Islands. The trench is about 2,550 kilometres (1,580 mi) long but has a mean width of only 69 kilometres (43 mi). It reaches a maximum-known depth of about 11.03 kilometres (6.85 mi) at the Vityaz-1 Deep and about 10.91 kilometres (6.78 mi) at the Challenger Deep, a small slot-shaped valley in its floor, at its southern end.

At the bottom of the trench, where the plates meet, the water column above exerts a pressure of 108.6 megapascals (15,750 psi), over one thousand times the standard atmospheric pressure at sea level.

    Last time I checked I believe 6,000 to 8,000 feet +

I'm pretty sure about that and I believe the deepest parts are towards the middle, the furthest from the shorelines of the continent, unless of course we mention Chile because their coast is fairly deep.

You can tell when water is very deep when it is darker blue as opposed to lighter.

I just double checked and oceans can be larger than 8,000+

feet.... 32,000 feet is the deepest I think (challenger deep is the deepest)

    Most oceans average 14,000+ feet
