Why do my truck tires wear so unevenly?
i have a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 5.3L 2WD extended cab.
my steering was unaligned and my tires were old, so igot new tires and had the steering aligned some time in june.
on my old tires, the outside edge on both front tires were bald. i thought this was because of the unaligned steering. 3 or 4 months later, in august (which is now), i am noticing that the outside edges of my 3 or 4 month old tires are wearing extremely fast compared to the rest of the tires. this is only on the front tires.
the back ones are fine. could it have come unaligned already?
is there some other component on the truck that might be causing this?
any other types of steering adjustments that can be made?
and also, when im on the highway, my steering wheel shakes.
whats causing that?
thanks

The outer edge of a tyre can wear down quicker if you do a lot of hard cornering or have the truck loaded incorrectly and also it could be that there is a steering part worn and your geometry is again out of alignment.
The vibration on the highway is to do with the wheel balance being incorrect another reason the tyres will wear in an unusual way

Hi,
Camber is the cause if out side tire wear. Most alignment centers only do toe in and out. Nasty.
The steering wheel shaking is 1 or both tires need balancing and checked for damage.

It's Camber just like Paul said, camber is the tilt of the tires either tilting outward or inward, I'm having the same problem on my GM car, the outside treat toward me looks fine but the inside is worn down something nasty, way uneven.

2000 GM? yea your about ready, I love my Chevy's but there front ends are junk, find a good front end shop and hope you can get away with only ball joints and tie rod ends, that or just keep spending money on tires and failed alignments.
