Thats a good question - There is no legal age.

Some parts of England have high burglary rates (Nottingham) so it does matter to some extent where you live.

Theres no LEGAL age technically

but leaving a 3 year old home alone for many hours cold be classed as neglect.

However a 15 year old home alone for 3 hours, they can look after themselves.

I think for anything longer than a half-hour the child HAS to be a teenager

I think younger than a teenager shouldn't really be left alone for more than 5 minutes..'part from like 12 year olds

To see if your childs ready to be left alone think:

What would they do if theres a fire

what would they do if theres a burgalry

Are they going to cause an accident

will they hurt themselves

if they hurt themselves can they look after it

can they make themselves drinks & food

Are they responsible?

My parents started leaving me at home when I was 12. But I don't plan on letting my kids stay home till there 13 or so.

ive been left home alone for 6-8 hours since i was 11 and im still fine, granted im still only 13

There is no rule, when do you feel child should be left alone, anything younger than 14/15 could be alittle to young.

at around 10years old for 1/2 hours but 13/15years old for few hours

but i am not sure about the law though!
