Is it safe to buy something off eBay and then pay though PayPal (invoice)?
I have just bought a laptop on eBay and the seller wants me to pay via an invoice on PayPal
so the question is, am I still covered if I don't receive the item?
Thanks

If He Wants You To Pay Through Paypal , And Not Paying Through eBay Paypal And eBay Cant Do Anything About It If He Doesnt Ship The Product Because You Payed Through Paypal Only

Before bidding on ANY expensive item you should check the sellers 'feedback' .. if it is over 1,000 and above 99%, everything is fine ... below these figs you are taking a chance .... and this will be reflected in the price you pay ... the lower the feedback, the higher the risk & thus the lower the price you should bid ..
Always check feedback if it's under 99% ..
Always check that the item is listed as 'in UK / EU' = some UK sellers 'drop ship' from outside EU and you get hit with Import Duty, VAT and handling charges (if that happens on a item listed as 'in UK', ask them to refund the extra costs = if they won't, make sure you leave them a 'Negative feedback')
If the sellers feedback is low & you are keen on the item, 'ask the seller a question' = "can you to visit them to collect the item and pay Cash" - since any fraudster does not want you to know their address (and chances are the item does not exist anyway), they will always refuse, whilst most honest sellers will say OK (you can then go ahead and have it posted)
Once you have won the auction, the SAFEST WAY to pay is indeed via PayPal .. NEVER EVER pay by Western Union (or MoneyGram) no matter what story the fraudster tries to spin you ..
If you ever sell stuff on eBay & get paid by PayPal, you MUST ONLY ship to the buyers PayPal registered address (if you ship to some other address & the buyer claims non-delivery', PayPal WILL REFUND the buyer, no questions asked - same happens if you fail to send 'signed for' or the receipt does not have the destination address on it )
Finally = NEVER EVER click on ANY LINK in ANY EMAIL even if it does seem to be from eBay .. ALWAYS visit ebay using a 'bookmark' (fraudsters bombard known eBay users with 'phishing' emails near the end of the Auction trying to get you to click on a link. If you do, you will get taken to a fake web site when you enter your eBay user name / password they will hijack your account) ..

You should be safe. Paypal is the preferred method of payment as it is secure. PayPal and eBay should both cover you for any potential losses, up to a certain point depending on each of their agreements. I have purchased things on eBay with PayPal in the past and not received them. I simply filed a claim, and eBay attempted to contact the seller and retrieve my item. When it was clear that had disappeared, eBay refunded my money.
