Are CD discs and DVD discs the same?

I was going to copy some family movies for another family member and bought

some CD discs this will work right?

    cd is ony for songs and documentaries,

    but in dvd we can download movies and everything...

    No. The DVD uses a smaller "track", a smaller wavelength laser, a higher data rate etc in order to fit more data on the same size disc. A Blu-ray disk uses an even smaller track etc. in order to carry yet more data as required by high definition video.

    No, CD disc is only for music and data file. CD can hold up to 700 MB files. But DVD can hold up to 4.7 GB files. much larger than CD.

    I tried to do this once and it did not work :(

    Steven sounds like he knows the technical reason it does not work.

    You need discs that are set up for DVDs

    Not unless you use a computer to copy and then watch them. You need DVDs.
