can i homeschool myself?

i absolutely HATE school. i love learning but i hate school. i can't deal with the schedule, pressure, anxiety, social issues, idiotic teachers, and stoners. at my school and every other school i looked at are completely wrong for me. when learning something all i need is facts. at my school none of the teachers are straightforward at all and they spend from 2 weeks to 2 months on one simple topic. i am completely bored and don't learn anything at school and i find it a complete waist of time. i would absolutely love to do homeschool but my parents are both working and wouldn't be able to teach me. could i just study and teach myself. i've always been an independent and intelligent person so i know that i would learn more that way. the only thing i'm not sure about is if it's legal. would it count as proper homeschooling? i live in bellevue, washington btw. it might be different between states.

i've thought about online school but i don't know if it would be as straightforward as i need.

Washington has no law as far as curriculum goes-you can homeschool yourself or do online work or use a homeschooling program-whatever works best for you. Because you live in Washington you would be required to have your parents permission (so that they can notify your school district and won't be subject to truancy laws), keep records of what you learn, and take a yearly standardized test to prove that you are learning while at home but it's entirely possible to unschool (that's teaching yourself without a curriculum) in Washington.

    Good luck!

I have been studying by myself for 3 years.

Aside from the legal stuff, you should only do it if you're a realllllllyyyyyyyy motivated person.

Buy some textbooks and read the chapters in them. At the end of each chapter, do the exercises they have.

If you have the least bit of procrastination (you don't feel like studying because you don't have any home work), don't do it; you'll end up wasting a lot of time.

It'll be easy for interesting subjects, like science, but it will be hard for subjects you don't like.

The only reason I do this is my parents don't teach me anything. If I had a choice, I would have stayed in school.

Also, there are teachers for a reason. If you don't understand something, who will you ask for help? You can also watch some lessons people post on youtube. There are tons of math lessons there. It's almost as good as having a teacher.

It's true that you will learn more that way (self-study), because you waste a lot of time in school. You spend 1 1/2 months working on a 10 minute presentation. The catch is you will only really benefit from it if you are not a procrastinator.

I agree ...school can be the worst place on earth.... sometimes i feel if only teachers could make the topics interesting we would not be hating it so much.

Its all about the teaching style...a student can fall in love with a subject if taught well, and can also do great at it.

Why don't you try out Maths Story from www.maths-school.co.nz. The best part about maths story is that it gives you te freedom to learn at your own pace. It also has a lot of exercises that you can practice to understand the concept well. That way you will not have to depend on your teacher to teach you.

Home school could be a good option if you can be disciplined about learning everyday. You would need to make a schedule on what subjects would covered and how much time you will give for each. You also have to keep pace with what is been taught at school; this way you won't feel that you are lagging behind.

You could take help of certain PC based programs like Mathemagic Computer Tutor from www.maths-school.co.nz.

This is an interactive software with animations that makes learning maths fun. Why you would like this is that it has objectives or targets that one needs to achieve before they can go to the next level. And achieving these targets is all about been able to answer the exercises given for each concept.

You are able to view your progress, and cope up at your own learning speed.

Your parents would have to do all the basics, like registering you (if your state requires it) and things like that. Many kids whos parents work have their parents make up their weekly schedule on the weekend or each eve, and than the kid does the assignments and shows the parent when they get home. Also, tests need to be administered by the parent. Parents need to meet a set of criteria before they are allowed to home school, and need to show that they are teaching you 11 required subjects. So legally, you can not home school yourself. I included a link at the bottom that has the WA home school law. As you can see, even in the most slack home, parents have a key part in the home schooling process. The exception is if you chose an online school, at which point you could do it basically on your own (because it is not considered home schooling).

I completely agree with you! I have no doubt you can home school yourself. It depends on what grade you're in though.

So you think school is a "complete 'waist' of time" huh? Sounds to me like you need a lot more of it.

More like you need a therapist actually, if you were honestly as intelligent as you claim to be then I think you'd be able to spot the problem right away.

HINT: I find it hilarious that you're so quick to believe that all schools aren't good enough, all your teachers are idiots, and the kids are a all pain before you believe that you have any problems.

When everything seems wrong in your eyes but yourself then chances are the problem lies in your eyes. It sounds like you just don't like interacting with people. Like it or not, you're going to have to in life. I think you should step down from your high horse and try to fix yourself instead of changing the world.
